Vacancy on the District Board
We currently have a vacancy on the Mosquito and Vector Management District of Santa Barbara County Board of Trustees. The eight-member Board meets on the second Thursday of every month starting at 1:00 PM to discuss the administration and operations of the District – which include monitoring for mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases (such as the West Nile Virus), review of the District’s financial transactions and contracts, discuss administrative and operational procedures and policies, provide direction and guidance to the District general manager including negotiations with the employees’ labor union, review and approve the District’s annual budget and benefit assessments, and other related duties.
Currently, meetings are held at the Santa Barbara City College Wake Campus located at 300 N. Turnpike Rd. in Santa Barbara. Meetings generally last two to three hours.
All activities of the Board are governed by the Brown Act – California’s Open Meetings Law.
Trustees are also required to take biannual online ethics and harassment prevention training and submit a conflict of interest form every year. Trustees receive $100 monthly compensation. Knowledge of mosquitoes, mosquito-borne diseases, mosquito control, etc. is not a requirement.
